Sapele is typically dark red-brown, and contains a well marked stripe figure which shows on quarter-sawn boards. Occasionally, logs may contain a fiddle back figure.
Sapele is often used as a Mahogany substitute, for such uses as furniture, joinery and flooring. It is extensively used for windows and doors.
